OCCUPATION FORCES IN MASSIVE ROUND-UPS
OF SHI'ITES

DIWANIYAH, Iraq, Nov 27 (IPS) - Detentions have become commonplace in Iraq, but now more than ever before people are being detained after being accused of membership in "militias supported by Iran." "Hundreds of our men were detained and accused of being militiamen supported by Iran," Mahmood Allawi, a 50-year-old lawyer from Diwaniyah, 160-kilomtres south of Baghdad, told IPS. "We are Arab Shiite and Iran is as much an enemy to us as America! It is Iran that we fear most after our leaders were killed by the so-called 'Iranian supported' militias," Allawi said.

MORE IRAQIS KILLED AT U.S. ROADBLOCKS
BAGHDAD (AP) — U.S. troops fired on vehicles trying to drive through roadblocks in Baghdad and north of the Iraqi capital, killing at least five people — including a child — in two separate shootings, the U.S. military said Tuesday.

NEW IRAQ/US SECURITY DEAL REQUIRES APPROVAL THAT WON'T HAPPEN!
Yesterday, General Douglas Lute, a top Iraq adviser to President Bush, said that the administration didn't require Senate ratification for its forthcoming long-term security guarantee to the Iraqis. It's unclear whether that's true, and I'll tell you more as soon as I know it. But even if it is, the Iraqi constitution stipulates that Iraq's parliament has to ratify any such agreement. And the Iraqi parliament is a lot more hostile to the idea of hosting U.S. troops indefinitely than the U.S. Senate is.

WANT TO LOSE AN ELECTION? STICK WITH BUSH'S "COALITION OF THE WILLING"
ThinkProgress has compiled a list of several major leaders in Bush's coalition who supported the invasion with troops and did not redeploy those troops from Iraq. Of 14 major partners in the Coalition, eight leaders were defeated in elections, two stepped down, two were term limited, and two remained in office.
