Houston, Texas
Margaret Davis writes:
The Houston Peace March was FANTASTIC. I'd like
to thank all of the people who helped organize and encourage attendance. I would estimate that at least 2500 people participated. Many
organizations came together from various different locations within
proximity of City Hall and fed from what seemed to be each intersection
into one large massive group marching together to Tranquility Park.
My name is Margaret Davis. I live in Alvin, Texas which is approximately
30 miles from Houston. My son is currently serving in Korea. I'm
honored to be a member of Military Families Speak Out. I speak
as an individual and not for the organization as a whole. I'm not
only opposed to this war in Iraq, I'm opposed to the entire current
Bush regime and agenda of dominance and empire throughout the world.
The Davis family gathered with others from Code Pink, Women Mobilized
for Peace, Mothers for World Peace and Mamas Brigade. We met beside
the fountains at the corner of Smith and Rusk. There we got to
listen a powerful speech given from Anne Bayerkohler of Military
Families Speak Out and hear some wonderful music by Anjali. From
there we marched toward City Hall.
The most impressive moment of my experience
was when we met up with those carrying the banner "NOT IN OUR NAME" and
cheers echoed from within the tall skyscrapers of downtown Houston.
The cheers and voices of those crying out for PEACE repeated at
what seemed like every intersection until we reached Tranquility
Park.
I thought to myself that on this very day when the United Nations
rings the Peace Bell, *International Day of Peace* ~ EARTH DAY...
the Vernal Equinox; may we find peace in the world.
